STEELHEAD

Saturday a dozen Steelhead fisherman got together to learn and relearn the subtleties of steelhead fishing.  There are differences between Summer Steelhead and Winter Steelhead.  There are different methods to extract these wonderful fish from their watery haunts. Alex Rachowicz and John MacDiarmid were on hand to discuss these methods and fhe locations where one is more likely to hook up with a steelhead.  It was an information loaded two hours.  Alex owns the Rogue Valley Anglers fly shop in Medford.  John is an IFFF certified casting instructor.

The firefighters are using the original meeting location.  We will be across the bridge on the downstream side.  We will be up close to the bridge in the picnic area.

Green Belt Riparian Zones

A Riparian Zone is the ribbon of vegetation adjacent to a shoreline or stream bank. The grasses, shrubs and trees are typically different varieties than the surrounding area. The riparian plant life is able to tolerate or needs a wetter environment. Usually these areas provide a home for an abundant variety of wildlife. An introduction to how to catch a Rogue Steelhead


If you are curious about how to catch a Rogue Steelhead or you have caught a few and are not happy with your catch rate, you will want to attend this informal "how to class".

Club members Alex Rachowicz and John Mac Diarmid will present this class on how to rig and fish for steelhead in the Rogue River.

The class will be at the picnic side of Tou Velle upstream of the bridge on Saturday, August 27 at 10:00 a.m.  It will cost you $4 for parking. We will cover equipment for swinging the fly with the spey rod and nymphing under an indicator with a single hand rod. We’ll also cover a few access spots. 
This is your chance to become addicted to Steelhead!!!

WE DO NEED VOLUNTEERS TO ROW THEIR BOATS THIS YEAR. PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A CONTRIBUTION TO THE CLUB BY ROWING ONE OR TWO ANGLERS.

IF YOU HAVE A DESIRE TO NYMPH OR SWING FLIES WE WILL TRY OUR BEST TO MATCH YOU UP IN BOATS OF SAME INTERESTS.

THE LAST TWO YEARS WE’VE BEEN ASKED TO ALLOW THE OARSMAN A CHANCE TO FISH. IF THE SITUATION SHOULD BE THAT 2 or 3 ANGLERS “WANT to ROTATE ROWING” EACH OTHER AND THEY ARE IN TOTAL AGREEMENT THAT EACH WILL FISH, WE WILL HAVE A NEW ALLOWANCE THAT THE BOAT OWNER WOULD PAY $75 WHILE THE OTHER 1 or 2 WILL PAY THE $150 ENTRY FEE.
